Inquiry term 4 2015

Inquiry is when we go off every Thursday with the teacher we choose at the start of the term.i choose suzzane.suzzane is doing cains arcade Caine is a boy that made arcade out of cardboard and got famous for it so we are making our own arcades every Thursday.
It will be good for future Russell street students because they can have fun playing my game.
I am making a game called sling can choose to have level 1 or level two. Level 2 is when the target moves.there is a slingshot and a marble you are suppose to hit the target and if you hit it you can win a mystery prize or some tickets

We have finished no and here are some questions I am going to answer  

What was your proudest moment in inquiry?when there were people coming round and we had big long lines to our arcade games!

What did you accomplish?we made a arcade game that works and people like it

Do people enjoy your game?people enjoyed our game most of the time but some people when they don't win say they don't like the game and it doesn't work!when it broke we all had to cello tape or hot glue it.

The what the most challenging thing?i think it was making sure everything works and when the slingshot breaks!  

I showed creativity agency and excellent a by getting things done and come up with creative ideas along the way

Discovery time

It sounded very mysterious because what land is it?it does not say what land it is or anything!

I think that the blurb sounded very mysterious because it says something is knocking on the door and we still don't know what was knocking on the door

The cover really drawer me in beacause of the barb makes me look very mysterious and action packed 
I think it will be about the war and it might be a bit gruesome and it might be about Japanese because in the cover there is the Japanese native plant the cherry blossom tree.

Te Reo Maori

 Description: In class having been learning the maori body parts and we could choose to make a puppet pals, music video, movie and a poster. We had to work in a group I choose to work with Sophie and Zara. We made a poster on pic collage. We had to choose who would be our audience be our audience and we choose teenagers So here is our poster.
We have been learning Te Reo Maori body parts and we learnt a song of the body parts in Maori and we did a poster first we wrote a person then we labeled it with body parts we found on the Internet and ones we knew this poster was for if we forgot we could look back at it to refresh our selves

Feedback/feed forward: I think that you did good and you added the song witch

Evaluation:I tham know I did well it was really hard to remember them and I still need to work on a few of the words but I will get there


This is my piece of writing about A guy who set a record from a high dam he shot a basketball into the hoop down below and got it in
Tony was at home sitting on the couch with his friend jeff when tony said"I want to make world record" "well"jeff said "what are you good at" "I guess I am kinda good at basketball"so tony and jeff spent all night researching and thinking of something they could do with basketball when jeff had a great idea!"we should through a basket ball of a dam and try to get it into the basket down below but the dam has to be tall! No one has beaten the world record that bob did but you could be the first.""well let's start training. But first I'm really tired so let's just go to sleep and do it in the they went to sleep and in the morning they woke up early and went outside to practise some basketball and he got in every single shot"I'm not sure I can do this" said tony.""with practise you can do anything"it took the, many moons to finally be ready for the big felt as if he was flying he was so high up.tony's heart was beating so fast like never before."this is it"he says"the day has come"you can do this tony"says jeff "there are thousands of people standing watching including the world record people.this was it the time has come the crowd silent.every thing went slow  motion he lined up the ball he shoots it seems to take ages for it to get to the hoop but it finally hit the hoop and it got in.the news broadcasters went crazy the crowd cheered louder then ever . tony had set a world record!

Wearable art production term 3

Description: We have our school production coming up and the task is to make a wearable arts garment using recycled things.the production is called ora-life.In poutama there are three groups the elements wind,water,fire and earth with Troy,heroes and villains with Rebecca and out of Africa with Kate.I am in heroes and villains with Rebecca.i am making a villain! I chose this because I love girl villains.I am doing a girl called BB.her main colour is purple .We did a mood board to get inspiration here is mine...

Description:our task in writing was to look at a picture and think of a piece of writing showing our goal.My goal is to use long and short setences because my writing was a bit boring before that.i can get better at that by uderstanding them well.the picture was of a big school of fish that had been gathered by a shark that was showed in the corner.look out for some long and short sentences in our writing.

Wast man

This is a tic tac toe and it is about a thing called was an the task was trot hard written a summarised version of the story and we had to do the big is a picture of waste man

Here it is.

Waste man is a man mad out of 30 tonnes of waste.It took a whole 6 weeks yo create.It is sky high!Antony gormley was the amazing creator of this piece of art.was burnt the day after creating it.the waste was collected by the thanet waste and the local people.It was made from people's home living things such as beds,bed side tables,dining chairs,toilet seats,desks,pianos and rubbish.

Reading sample term 3

Me and Aria did a tic tac this tic tac toe you read the article about body painting festival and summarise. summarising is when you read a long piece  of text and shorten it down using the key words. it as if you were a news reporter.i have men going to lots of workshops to get and Aria recorded it is...

Big idea:my goal is summarising because I make things longer than they need to be.i have been to lots of workshops to get better and I think I have got a lot better since I first started.i think i have gotten better at finding the key words and putting them into a short summary.

Feedback/feed forward:
I really liked the report because they weren't just in one room they went to different places other than the place that tabitha was in next time you could find somewhere more quiet so people can here you clearly. Devin

I think that it was good but we didn't really do a very good summary of it it was pretty much a normal report because all we were thinking about is making the report good

Description:in writing with elly we have been working on conjunctions.i got this goal by going through my writing a ticking the things that I can do well and conjunctions was one I need to work on.I think I could get better at useing my conjunctions by really thinking anout and concentrate on it.the task was...We had a picture and we had to come up with a story thinking what haopened before that picture and after thet picture and also what is happening just then.A lot of planning went with it here it is

Feedback/feed forward: I think you did really well at hooking the reader in. Next time you could use proper punctuation and you could use some more interesting words.
Evaluation:I think I did well with my conjunctions beacause I really know what I am doing.I could work on thinking about it when I am writing a story so that I can make my story better.

Et reo Maori

Every Monday well the others oare at Kapalua Haka we have been learning more at the moment we have been learning how to say wether we like the food or we don't in Maori.Me and Sophie have made a video showcasing what we have learned

Big idea:the task was we had to make a video showing that we could do what we were learning to be good at it you need to practise a lot so you don't forget it

Successes criteria/evaluation:
Speaking fluently:I think lots of practise helps with that and I think that I need to practise a little bit more to be as fluent as I am in English

Speaking clearly:knowing it really helps so just like speaking fluently you need to practise

Feedback/feed forward:I think you did really well but next time you should work on your pronounceation, but apart from that you were very good. Katie:)

Maths portfolio sample

We have been doing maths with our maths teacher and my maths teacher is ELLY we have been discussing different strategies we could use  (e.g place value,rounding and comp,reverse ability and equal edition.

Here is all of the items with there prices and the questions
Big idea:we got a task and we have to answer four questions and there is a sheet and I a bunch of items with prices and we have to use them to anwser the questions
Q1:have a sum more than $550
Q2:have a difference between $40 and $50
Q3:have a sum of exactly $426
Q4:have a difference of $134

Reversibility:I think that reversibility is what I need to work on most because I haven't been useing it and I kinda forgotten what you need to know to use it. 
Place value:I use that one a lot so I practise it a lot and I find it easy because I always practise it 
Rounding and comp:it is like place value so if I can't do place value I will do rounding and comp because I also find that easy
Equal edition:that also like both of the other ones I find that really easy so I think I am good at it.

Think like a scientist:I think I did well and to think like a scientist you need to really look at the detail in things
Talk like a scientist :you really need to think in your brain to talk like a scientist and I think I did well with that

Reading portfolio sample 2015 term 2

HMy goal for reading is comprehension and in comprehension we have been working on visualising the text and making text to text,text to world and text to self connections.If you were doing a text to text connection you would get a sentence from the book you are reading and connect it to some text you have read that is nearly the same from a different book.A text to world connection is almost the same but you are connecting text you have read to something happening somewhere in the world right now.Text to self is as well almost the same you read some text and you connect it to something you have done before or something you have seen someone else do.
Success criteria and evaluation:
Text to self:I think that I am good at text to self because to do text to self you really need to read through it and really understand what you are reading.

Test to world :I think that I am okay at that but I could get better by always thinking about it when I am reading a story or book.

Text to text:same as text to self I think that I really need to know what I read with every book I read so I think I am good at that.

Re-read::if I don't under stand what I read I don't just move on i stay on it to re read so I think that I am good at that.

Cause and effect:I think making predictions can really help me with this one and thinking.

Comparisons and contrast:thinking of other words that would fit into that sentence.

Independent writing task week 5

I was in a work shop with cindy and we had to pick animals and write a describing sentence about that using a dependent and a independent part.

Every week we learn about skills and movement that will help us play sports. This term’s focus has been around defense. We made a video showing some of the goals we have been practicing. I have highlighted the thing I think I have done well YELLOW and one thing I would like to work on PINK.

WALT: Defensive skills and movements
Success Criteria:
Body Movement
Weight on balls of feet
Feet shoulder width apart
Knees flexed
Concentration and eyes on ball, head and eyes up
Push hard off outside foot and go forwards to attack pass
Quick small feet, stay on balls of feet
Arms within confines of body
Take feet to ball
Land with a SBP
Body angled to see player and ball
Anticipate pass and player movement
Restrictive Marking

Meet player as they start towards the ball/where they want to go

Evaluation:I think I need to have more force because the ball can  go kinda far but the ball need a little bit more force to get it further when I need it and it would help to push by the back foot.

Feedback/Feedforward: I agree with bella on this you need to focus on putting force into your passing so you can go further. But otherwise you know all of the other skills. Aria

Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae

Description:  In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville.  We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities.  We set two goals to focus on during our stay.Here are my goals 

Big Idea:  
1.  Did you achieve your goals?  How do you know? I think I achieved my goal because I made a new friend Grace s!

2.  What are you most proud of from the marae stay and why?I learnt to walk on stilt it is so much fun Kate D showed me how

3.  What challenged you the most and why?Drawing the marae was challenging because of all the detail.

Triangles with Troy

We have been learning about Geometry for Maths for the past few weeks. We looked at all the different types of shapes and in particular triangles. We have learnt that there are 4 different types of triangles and we created something to share our understanding about each of them.
Big idea: this is my prove it to prove I know what I do whith troy 
My buddy was Rileigh-Kaye and we are showing all the proprieties of these triangles using a poster. I hope that other people learn from our poster.

Evaluation: I think I could improve on more detail into what I say about the triangles
I think I like how it is clear to read and I worked really hard on learning it.

Feedback/feed forward: I think you did well, next time you could work on making the text bigger but other then that really well done and I learnt something.

I am doing an evaluation on how I think I have done achieving my swimming goal.
My goal was to move my head side ways instead of up when I breath in freestyle.I think I have done it well but when I'm doing a race I go fast and don't really thing about it so I think I need to have a little bit more practise to lock it in.

Stuck movie

We are doing a movie about being stuck on the escalator .When you a stuck on the escalator you are stuck in your learning. We made a video about it hope you like it😄
Criteria: (Content)
  1. Video - 30 seconds long, time is limited.
  2. Scenario - Show someone being stuck and not using the ability to act.
  3. Clear Message - Short sharp clip. Can the watcher get the point of your video?
  4. Unique - Coming up with something funny that gets a laugh from others.
  5. Time Passing - Do you need to show time passing in your clip to emphasise your message.

Criteria: (Movie)
  1. Light - Make sure the sun isn’t creating a hard to see clip.
  2. Voice Volume - Needs to be louder than other background volume eg Noise, Kids.
  3. Frame - What’s in the frame to make your message obvious.
  4. Steady Hands - Make sure the camera is still.
Individual Clips - Don’t do one continuous shot of 30 seconds. Make a range of short clips and join together. 
Feedback/feed forward : I really like you video it is entertaining and your message is clear and its 30 sec exact. Maybe next time serena doesn't have to be stuck in the tree when she's playing. Katie

Swimming goals 2015

This term we started swimming.We made a video to show our skills in the pool.We looked back at our videos and decided our goals on what we saw i the videos.then we made our goal...

My goal is to:Get better at my breathing instead of moving my head up moving it side ways.I hope to achieve this goal by the end of this Term, maybe even earlier so I can set myself another goal and be even better.I will know I have acheived this goal when my buddie gives me good feedback or I will take another video of myself.

Maths tests

We did a some maths tests to figure out our goal for this term. We started at stage four and I got up until stage 5 you can get up to stage 6 but I didn't.You get the next stage by getting at least 80 percent in your test.The pink highlight the ones we got wrong and the ones we might need to work on,the gold and the ticks highlight the ones we don't need to work on.The pink highlighter on the title is the catorgrie that we need to set as our goal on.My goals are...division facts and multipacation facts.Me learning my multipication fact will help me learn my division facts.
I'm going to try and practise a lot of the time.I am going to pick 3 questions a week and I am going to see if I can learn them everyday! I am hopefully going to get them done by the end of March.I will know I have achieved my goal when I know the answers just like that!

Remember way back when Jocleyn got me and Hannah mixed? We looked the same from behind.

Remember when we went to camp? We did that really funny skit and the sprinkler dance.

 Remember when Chris the teacher tried to be my favourite teacher? Sonita was coming in first place still.

Remember how Sonita was my favourite teacher? She was always wanting to learn more about us, about teaching and what we like.

That was me growing up!
