Athletics Reflection 2016 T4

On Wednesday we did athletics It was great and it was Really challenging and I am very sore today. My placings were 1st in Javelin 2nd in Hurdles and 3rd in High jump. Here is a reflection on the day...
    • What was the most enjoyable part of athletics for you? Why? The most enjoyable part for me was High jump even if i came 3rd I still love high jump and I loved all the support the rest of the year sixes gave me when I got over the bar!
    • What are you really proud of? Why?I am really proud of kiwi for doing really well on the day and getting 2nd in the relay I am also really proud of myself for coming first in javelin Because I didn't expect it!
    • What was the most challenging part? Why? The most challenging part for me was staying positive when I didn't do so well because I am a leader and I don't want everyone in my house thinking you have to win to enjoy athletics.
    • Where to now? What are your goals for next time? Why do you want to focus on this? I next time would practise a bit more and get a better result maybe also running a bit more and getting a bit more fit I also think I should have a bit more of a positive attitude towards athletics practise because it a only make Athletics day better

Maori Whakatauki About Market Day

Market Day Post!

9/11/2016: This term we are having a market day. Market day is on the 11 of november. I'm in a group with Bella and Tabitha. Our product that we were selling is soap dough which is a dough that you can play with and you can take a pinch you can wash your hands with it.

14/11/16: Now that market day is done I am going to tell you a bit about how it went. Pretty much everybody sold out including us. We made a great profit of around $66! It was very busy and there were lots of people pre-ordering our product. All together we made $2406!!

Maths Statistics T4 2016

In poutama we have been learning about statistics. At the moment we have been learning about survey's and gathering information. The way we gathered our information was bu beans. We had a range of different coloured beans and every answer had a colour next to it. Then you would put the color of been that you was on the side of the answer you chose. you will see on the slide that we have gathered the information on the side of each answer as to how many people voted for that.
I think that I did well at thinking of great effective questions but next time I would get rid of the other answer so that I know exactly what they would say.

Persuasive Writing

For writing We are learning to persuade people to buy useless item's. My useless item is a used tissue. We are learning about all of the parts of a great persuasive piece of writing. I think that I am the best at having a great hook i never seem to struggle with coming up with one and they are always really interesting. I think what I need to work on is supporting my points with evidence because i can say on thing but the important thing is that you need evidence to support it.

JK Taking risks

In the last 2 weeks, I have been working with Nic, Elly, Troy and some teachers from Ashurst. Along with 19 other kids. We have been learning to take risk and come up with ways to help us develop some strategies to deal with risks. The first week we got 9 strips of paper that had some risk actions on them. We then had to put them in order of 1 being our most risky thing and 9 being our lest risky thing. Then we met this guy who wanted to be a house leader but he had to talk in front of adults about why he wanted to and he was a bit nervous! So we made him a action plan...
Then we were told we were going to do our risky thing my risky thing was singing in front of an audience. We then each made an action plan. On my action plan were things like doing it with a buddy. Then we did that thing and went back for another session. And reflected on our risk and how our action plan helped. Then we got 9 strips of paper that had learning risks on it. We put them in order like we normally did. And today i taught that excact some lesson to 4 other children who had never done it before we got a script and read that to them. I think i did well but i could have gone a bit more in depth with the action plan! Here are some email they sent me about how I went.a photo of me in action.

Calendar Art Sample 2016 T3

Description: This term we have been doing calendar art and we have been doing self portraits and what we like. The first we had to think about what represents us and draw the ideas down that best represent us and were we live or what we like. The second stage was draw our ideas onto A3 card. The third stage was to practiced using paint and pastel for our backgrounds. The fourth stage was to practice drawing our self portrait and after that we had a practice we got some card and drew the real thing. The last thing we did was the background. We used paint pastel and dye to make the background look effective. Here is a slide showing some effects we used and the finished piece.

ET Reo Portfolio Sample 2016

In ET Reo we have been learning about Whakatauki's. A Whakatauki's Is a Maori proverb. A proverb is a meaningful quote to live off and be inspired by. We learnt 2 Whakatauki's. One was He Aha Mea Nui o Te ao? He Tangata He Tangata He Tangata. (What is the most important thing in the word? The people, the people, the people) I am going to be telling you about what we did for that one. So we decided that it was about the people and we are people so we did a self portrait of our selves. And we thought we need to spice up this one wall in the class room so we painted the quote on paper and then stuck our people around it here is a picture of it...

Evaluation: I didn't know what a Whakatauki was but after Troy and Elly explained it all I have a good understanding of it. I think I could have strived for excellence a bit better with my self portrait but it still is quite nice and I like it.

Feedback/feed forward: You have such a talent in drawing I think you could work on the little detail like the eyes the lips and the nose but otherwise you might have a future in drawing.

Book Buddies Portfolio Sample 2016

Description:This term we have been doing book buddies I am in Bookapedia  so Suzanne divided us into groups, we were in groups with people that have the same goal, then in our groups we chose our buddie I chose Tabitha, every week we have to have a discussion with our buddies and our coach to make sure that we are on track.

Evaluation:I think I did well at Making a great high quality board game but there were a few problems and things we forgot and did at the last minute. I think I got caught up in everything I was doing and forgot about my actual goal so I could work on that.

Description: In maths we are learning about measurement.  We started by getting a Task that was all about measurement and we had our first go. I didn't do very well because I had no idea where to start. Then we had some workshops on measurement Area capacity weight and then we revisited the task and I did a lot better. At RSS we do the forty hour famine were you give up something you take for granted in life that other people may not have. For this years forty hour famine I lived out of a backpack for forty hours!

The night the famine started we went up to school and made quilts for children in Syria. We cut out our hand and sewed them on to a fabric and then joy sewed them together. Soon they will be taken to Syria! We were on the Manawatu standard!!

Description: Every Monday we do discovery time.Discovery time is we have lots of different activity's we can chose from. The point of Discovery time is to show Panekiretanga (Excellence).It is our school value for the year.
We got given a task to fill in a slide that ask us to give 3 examples of excellent's and some targets so her it is. 
I think I have done well in discovery time. It is really fun. I have been showing excellence but I need to maintain that always and I can do that by always keeping it in my mind.

For a little bit I made a hut.Then I went on the Pogo sticks.Then I sewed

HUT MAKING:With hut making It was quit challenging because we didn't have enough blanket but in the end we made a really cool hut all because we tried and didn't give up!

POGO STICKS: Pogo stick were really hard and to start off I couldn't even get on them now I can bounce six times in a row! And what help me to improve was my friend Tabitha! She really helped me and didn't give up on me and also another thing that helped me was not giving up and trying my hardest!

SEWING:The hardest thing about sewing was thinking of something to do but I was really creative and came up with a great idea! It was also really challenging to sew it but Charlotte helped me and it turned out really great!

Today was the first day of term 3! When we got to school the teachers told us about Discovery time which is what we will be doing every Monday from the morning till lunch. It is a time where there are lots of activities eg. Tents, Pogo stick etc. The purpose of it is to show excellence creativity and agency in any activity.
What I chose:
I chose two things the first thing I chose to make was Obleck which is a gooey slime like thing that you make with water and corn flour. The other thing I chose to make was a tent so we had a two person tent and we had the challenge of putting it up and then decorating with blankets. On our one we had a star blanket and put it over the top and pretended that we was looking up at the stars.
With the Obleck what we were doing was showing creativity with our measurement because we had no measurements so we had to guess! But ours was a success but to start of with it wasn't we just had to persist and not give up and eventually we got it.
With the tents it was quite hard to assemble but we got through it and like the Obleck we didn't give up and we got there in the end, and it actually looked really cool with the blankets. Then we stuffed it with cookie pads and bean bags.

In poutama we have been learning about the different types of clouds.

we had a task to write a story about it but BEFORE we could do anything we had to plan it in our hamburger...

Now here is my writing...

Have you ever wondered why clouds have there name? Cirrus,Stratus and cumulus? have you ever wondered who gave them that name? Well I am here to tell you. Luke Howard that who!He was a pharmacist by job but he always dreamed of being a meteorologist! He didn’t pay attention in most of his classes except for

But clouds were hard to study in those days because you couldn’t just pick off a bit of cloud and study it could you have to observe! Clouds don’t change in form they just change in shape!

Why are clouds call what their called? Well there latin! Cirrus meaning hair like strands there skinny.There clouds that are high in the sky and you find them on sunny days.stratus meaning sheet they are low clouds and you normally see them just after it has rained. And cumulus is a rain bearing cloud and it is very dark and fluffy.You would normally see this type of cloud on a rainy cloudy cold day.He introduce lots of other names for clouds that were mabye hald stratus and halfv cumulus and mixed them together to create inbetween names.

So Luke Howard is a pretty smart guy he learnt a whole named clouds and didn’t even study it! So does that answer your question

SLC reflection

On Tuesday I did my Student lead conference here are some reflection questions!

1) How do you think you did on your SLC? What was the highlight?
My highlight was that I got to share my learning really in depth with my parents.

2) What did you do differently to make your SLC stand out?
I didn't just read of the post I did it from the heart and showed mum and dad the real learning behind what I am doing at school.

3) How will you make your Home Led Conference in Term 3 be awesome? What things might you do to make it awesome?

A few weeks ago a school from Masterton came to palmy for a sports exchange(Last year we went there).We competed in a series of events like Rugby, Soccer, Hockey, Netball and Basketball.I played Netball in the A team.Tabitha and I made a video asking some questions here it is...


This term our writing has been around sea turtles, first we watched a video so we could learn about sea turtles then we made a plan, so we knew what we were going to write about, then we started our drafts.

Sea turtles…
Today we are going to be talking about sea turtles! Sea turtles have been around for 150 million years!! They have been alive since dinos infact they are connected to dino’s!

Okay so let’s start with eggs.The female sea turtles are ables to start laying eggs and 20 years old.They lay them on a beach in a hole that they dig!They lay around 1000 eggs at a time!But 800/1000 hatch!And only 400 make it to the water! THe cause of that are crabs seabirds and pollution!The eggs are about the size of a ping pong ball!

Now shall we talk about growing up.sea turtles have a very hard life.Infact so hard that only 2 out of 1000 eggs that the female lay make it to breeding age!(That’s a 96% that they will make it)
I sure wouldn’t like to be a sea turtle!

Description:Every Monday the students who choose not to go to Kapa Haka go to ET REO were we learn about the maori language.At the moment we are learning about foods and objects you would have on a dinner table here is a picture that tells us what they are in maori

We have also been learning a song all in Maori by Stan Walker.We thought it would be easier to learn it if we knew what it means so two people got one line of the song and using the Maori dictionary we found out what it meant.

Then we were given a task to create something to help us remember the table words in Maori.I made flash cards with Sophie B,Tabitha C,Charlotte H and Rebecca O!Here is a photo of our flash card...

Feed forward/Feed forward:I think you are doing really well learning the song and I think your getting better every day.

Evaluation:I think I have done great at learning the table foods but I could work on trying a bit harder on the song and even if I get some of the lyrics wrong I am learning!


description:Every Thursday the year sixes split up into two groups and for the first half of the afternoon one group goes to drama with Nic and one group goes to Japanese with Kelly.


In Japanese with  Kelly Sensai we have been learning about the Japanese language.I have learnt how to introduce myself  in Japanese and how to ask how people are doing a reply basically i have learnt how to start a conversation.At the moment we are learning about body parts and how to say that some part of my body is sore in a reply to how are you.Next Wednesday we are going IPU (International pacific university)
and we will be seeing real Japanese people who will teach us about what it is like and japan and hopefully we will be able to start a conversation with them!

evaluation:Learning a new language is very hard and I think I have done pretty well and have picked it up well to but maybe I could try a bit harder!

Feedback/Feed forward: I think that you have done so well in Japanese this term learning the new language but next time I think that you could do some home work on it to get better.

In drama we have been learning to always stay focused and in character even in the hardest of time at the moment we are doing a silent movie about a myth we are doing a stars myth.

evaluation:I think I am doing well but maybe I could get my giggling under control!

Feedback/Feed forward: I think that drama is fun and you have been getting better at acting but when you grow up and you want to be an actress then you are going to need to work on your giggling problem.

Maths squares

In maths we got given task to find different letters are there in the alphabet that have an area of 6 squares? I did all of the alphabet and I got 17/26. Here is my poster I made

sports start sample 2016

Description:In poutama we have been doing a sports program called Sports Start were we learn all the skill for playing sport.Today we have played 2 games.
One of the games is called gateways and in gateways there are a whole bunch of cones on the court making lots of little gateways and in each gateway there is a type of throwing device.There could either be a ring or a mini bean bag.Here is a video of me showing you how the game works with Katie O'Brien

  Color Rounders!
The next game we played was called color rounders.In color rounders what you do is you have 4  hula hoops set up in a circle and a bat next to one of the hoops.There are 8 people playing in each game.Three are fielders, 4 stand in the hoops and one will have the bat.The person holding the bat and the people standing in the hoop are one team the fielders are another .

So one of the fielders will bowl the ball to the person holding the bat and then they will try to  hit it as far away as the possibly can and the fielders will run as fast as they can to get the ball and put it in the one of hoop while the people standing in the hoop and the person holding the bat will run around every hoop counting how many time they go past a hoop and once the fielders get the ball into one of the hoops they have to stop running and there will be a different batter.

And then once everyone has had a turn batting the people standing in the hoop and the fielders will swap over and then you do it all over again and the team that go around the most hoops win!

Feedback/Feed forward: I think you did a good job at gateways and showing how to play. I think that in color rounders you did such a good job at showing how to play. Next time you could do some more challenging passes to each other in gateways so others can see what type of passes you can do.- Aria

Evaluation:I think I did well but maybe I could be a bit more into it and really try my very hardest but I think overall I have been practicing all the skills and I am getting really good at it!-Myself

description:In maths in poutama we have been doing maths tests I did the stage 6 maths test.I did the same test last year and got 14% then I practiced,practiced and practiced to get higher and better score!to get on to the next stage you need to get 80%.In this terms test I got 40% which is a huge improvement so I am happy here is a picture of my test!

evaluation:I think I did well and i am proud of myself but next time I could practice at home a bit more so I can get a bit higher of a score but I think all the practice i have been doing at school is great and I just need to continue it at home!

Last week all of troy's whanua class have been doing seed-to-table.We will be doing it for the next 3 weeks.Last week we did minestrone soup with Focaccia  bread and for dessert we had self sauce and pudding.
The next week we had corn fritter and for dessert we had apple crumble
The next week we had spaghetti and meatballs and for dessert we had dutch pear and apple tarts

 for science we are trying to figure out away to manipulate plants into growing in winter and we have chose to change one thing in the way they grow.So what we are doing is keeping  the pots they grow in the same the place the grow the same how many seeds go in each pot and what type of seeds go in it and lastly we are keeping how much water we pt in there the same.The thing we will be changing is the temperature of the water.I am working with Tabitha,Zara and Libby

evaluation :I think cooking was really fun there wasn't one meal i did not like.I thought science was great but as you can see in the slide our plants have not made much progress!

Weather science inquiry sample 2016

In troy's inquiry we learnt about the weather.My inquiry question was why is each season different?Tabitha and I searched it up in many different websites and found out that the earth rotates closer to the sun every season.Then we went on weather wizz kids and found an experiment.Thee were none there that were really to realated to the topic but I chose this one 

The experiment is called make dew and frost what you do is in one tin you put crushed ice and water.In another you put crushed ice and salt one has dew and one has frost the one with dew is the one that has the icy stuff around it that doesn't rub off the other one which has frost has drops of water on is a picture of me doing the experiment!

evaluation:I think that I have done well in weather and found out a lot I am sad I was not here on Friday to see all the experiments.But at least I did mine.I think I could have made it a bit more related to what I was doing and I am still not quiet sure about why each season is different?

In my workshop with Troy and Scott we learnt about equivalent fraction.A equivalent fraction is when one fraction is the same as another fraction!for example 4/8 = 1/2.with any fraction all you need to do is x the number you are trying to get an equivalent fraction with and the top number and  you will get

maths with oranges!

today for maths i did it out of the book.The questions were.. many oranges would each person get if seven oranges were shared between 2 people many oranges would each person get if 3 oranges were shared with 4 people
Evaluation:I think for me it was quite easy and I need something that will challenge me a bit more

Last week in poutama we did a spelling test. We were being tested on the 300 essential words we need to know. The teachers asked us a question and then following that they put a sentence showing in what sentence you would use the word in. For example there. There are different ways you could spell that like there or their. I got on wrong and the one that I got wrong was "their" I spelt  it there but it was actually their but I know how to spell both of those words. Here is a picture of it...

In my first writing workshop for this term we looked at a sentence and found away we could re craft it to be better.My sentence was somewhere near us a cat meowed,long and loud,like a sad sad cat!
I think i did well but my sentence was a bit to close to the original sentence


today at maths i redid the test to see if i knew them here are the results...

A few day ago we did a handwriting 'test' .The Teachers gave us a poem and five minutes to write the Poem exactly like it actually looks.Then we got some white boards and on one we put a number 1 on another we 2 and so on up to 4.1 meant you thought your handwriting was horrible 4 was you thought i was amazing and in between was medium.There were lots of different categories like fast legible and accurate Here is a picture of my handwriting...
evaluation:I put myself in 3 for accurate and then the whole class went through all of our decisions and they judged whether they thought  we were being to hard on ourselves or if they agreed. everyone agreed that mine was a 4 so they changed it.I think i am a three for fast because i did not have any time to spare.I think i was a 4 for legible because you can read it all . that means that i do not need to work on my handwriting in my independent time

graffiti art with Chris!

Troy was sick one day so we had a reliever called Chris he did some art with us.He called it graffiti art.
Here are the steps we took. some videos of graffiti artists to inspire us
2.Nail the letters.We had to practice lots to get our letters looking great.
3.Think about what we wanted our art to say the example on the tv said sage.I chose bee because it can be short for Bella
4.then we drew.we made it 3-d and then we shaded that in with a black pastel
5.then we came up with the designs and color.
6.we painted
7.we let them try and they turned out like this...
evaluation:I think my letters look great but I kinda ruined it by going to fast with the drawing and painting!But I really like how I made it nice and big so there is not to much of a back round and people focus on the letters and the graffiti.

S.T.A.R test results

In poutama we have been doing our star test.A star test is when we have a test on our reading there are 4 compartments. the  4 compartments are  word recognition, sentence comprehension ,paragraph comprehension and vocabulary.I got a stanine 9.A stanaine is basically a number showing how well you if you are under 5 you need a little bit more work.If you are over five you are doing pretty well.I got 10 right in word rec,I got 10 in sentence compo,i got 19 in paragraph compo and 10 in vocab.The most you can get in the first two compartments and the last one is 10 and the most you can get in the sentence comp is 20!I got a 49/50!

El Rancho Camp Story portfolio sample 2016

Description:In poutama we have been writing about our 2016 camp El Rancho.It was great! DISCLAIMER: don't in any way think that El Rancho is not a good camp after reading this writing.
The first thing we did to get this writing was jog our memory by putting it on my writers notebook.The next thing we did was think about P.I.E.S (p for persuade,i for inform,e for Entertain and s for self) I chose entertain because I wanted to entertain people because maybe I might want to write entertaining story's when I get older.Here is my story about camp...

Wow Bella your story is amazing next time you could try add more emotion to your story really make the reader cry laugh or even dance but that is all I could see, you are a talented writer and you might have a future as a author.

Evaluation: I think I did really well and my story flows well but I do agree with Tabitha I could add some more emotion. because it is a little bit dull.

Family Tree Portfolio Post

Description: In poutama we have been learning about our family tree and the maori names for Mum and Dad and all of our family. First we made a draft and found out about our family then we started thinking about our presentation. Here is my presentation of my very short family tree with the maori names...
Big Idea: I went home and learnt a lot about my family and were we come from. I also learnt a lot about the maori names for mums dads sisters and lots more!
 Feedback\Feed-forward: I like the way you  have done a poster but next  time could make it tidier.

El Rancho camp 2016 portfolio post

description: On the 8th to the 11th of march the pupils in poutama were on camp at El Rancho in Waikenae. At camp there was 10 activity's including Pool,Archery.Mini golf,Water slide,Rifles,Horses,Low ropes ,kayaks,Rafts and team initiatives.My favorite activity was Archery.I got the ball. Which is a ball in between the targets that barely anyone gets and I got the bulls eye twice!

There were different cabins .There was Poplar,Oregon and willow.I was in poplar.I had a great group that was nice and tidy we actually won the tidiest cabin.

the meals we had were nice one of the meals had hard rice.For breakfast we had normal cereals and toast.For lunch we had stuff like hot dogs.We had to get up at 7:30 and got to bed at 8:30 but one night we played spotlight and roasted marshmallows!

Every time we got to camp your activity group does a skit.My activity group skit was El Ranchos got talent!I dressed up as a boy named bill.On the last night we showed off our skits at a camp concert.Were our parents are allowed to come.
